A recent 451 Research report states, “Automic positions itself as a full-service automation tool - an ‘uber orchestrator’”. Or, to define what 451 Research is referring to, Automic is an outstanding or supreme example of orchestration.

Is it true? And if it is, why is orchestration the future of IT automation? And how does Automic orchestration reserve and provision the hybrid infrastructure needed to deploy business services?

The research doesn’t hold back. “Automic is positioning itself as… “an ‘uber orchestrator’ of processes, workload automation, infrastructure provisioning and application deployment. Automic users can now request and manage a range of multi-vendor, multi-cloud applications, infrastructure and custom services. Policy-based governance right-sizes resources for the task, supporting best execution venue operations.”

Services at the Touch of a Button

So what does this ‘uber orchestration’ actually do? For starters, users can request complex service offerings – ranging from multi-tier server deployments, Hadoop data pipelines and Oracle RAC database servers to disaster recovery, employee onboarding and SAP system copies – all from existing ITSM suites like ServiceNow or Automic’s own self-service portal.

These services are delivered fully orchestrated with the provisioning, updating, and de-provisioning of service components across business, application and infrastructure layers, whether on premise, hybrid, or in the cloud. Unlike alternatives which are best suited to greenfield data centers, Automic’s orchestration solution enables organizations to quickly evolve existing data centers to private clouds. There’s no rip and replace here.

Other ‘uber’ features include:

  • Fully-orchestrated service delivery across all departments at the push of a button
  • Single point of control for full-stack service delivery
  • Rapid, reliable service delivery on-premise, in the cloud or in hybrid environments – without delays or errors caused by manual tasks
  • Assurance of process and configuration compliance
  • Provision, update, change and patch with one solution
  • Recover resources to manage expenses by de-provisioning services not in use

Integration with open source and public cloud solutions In fact, the latest v12 edition of Automic adds the auto-updating of agents, meaning there is zero downtime upgrading for operational IT, and it does away with maintenance windows. New environment blueprint provisioning also enables users to encapsulate their application deployment plans and models, without changes, to include the required stack template. The idea is that enterprise IT can provide on-demand application environments. Automic v12 also includes a new unified user interface, analytics and SLA management. A cloud sandbox enables users to try out the application release automation and workload management products.

This is all good news for customers eager to adopt orchestration capabilities, since they now have the capability to transform their IT operations from a cost center to a strategic business center through the automation of IT and business processes.
