Today’s world is more connected than ever. Right now, we are more connected than we were yesterday and tomorrow we’ll be even more connected still. Why? Because digital transformation and innovation is continuing at pace all around us. The new norm for the industry is that every business is a software company, which is demonstrated daily: more new applications hit the market, established products receive increasingly frequent updates and more devices are taking advantage of the Internet of Things. Trying to remain competitive, and indeed simply trying to remain relevant, is harder than it’s ever been. If you use the wrong tools, that is.

At CA Technologies, we’re firm believers that in order to succeed, enterprises must become ‘modern software factories’. That’s why our entire portfolio, our CA ecosystem if you will, has been designed to enable digital transformation. And at the backbone of all these market-leading tools? Automation.

In order to become a Modern Software Factory, enterprises must:

  • Create an agile business
  • Build better apps, faster
  • Make security a competitive advantage
  • Maximize application performance

The CA Technologies ecosystem is populated with industry-leading tools to satisfy these needs and empower the enterprise. As the CA Business Automation Unit, we’ve been looking at ways of truly orchestrating these activities, using the power of the CA Automic Automation Engine.

Introducing Automation to the CA Ecosystem

Companies must build faster to keep up with the changing digital landscape as well as customer demand. This is one of the key strengths of CA Service Virtualization (CA SV). By enabling different teams – developers, testers, integration and performance – to work in parallel, they can quickly create high quality software. And adding CA Automic Release Automation (CA ARA) to the mix allows organizations to safely release their diverse portfolios into production. CA ARA is designed with enterprise-scale companies in mind, meaning it provides a consistent, repeatable and auditable continuous delivery (CD) pipeline. Ultimately, by combining CA ARA and CA SV you can increase the frequency, quality and safety of all your releases, ensuring you remain competitive in the digital era.

Automating the Toolchain:

CA ARA allows us to provide CD practices across the entire DevOps toolchain, including the entire CA ecosystem, and enables the automatic provisioning of test environments; everything from virtual services to test data. Once testing is completed, CA ARA can do more than simply de-provision environments – it can keep them running and notify QA professionals of any errors encountered.

Test data still remains a barrier to continuous delivery. Creating, provisioning and maintaining that data isn’t just time-consuming, but resource-intensive which in turn is holding us back from achieving true CD. Introducing automation to the CA Test Data Management suite, removes this headache, by allowing you to create test data environments at the same time you deploy an application for testing.

It seems as if there’s not a week that goes by – a day, even – without news of another security breach. Security should be paramount to the modern business, but too often measures are worked into a product after-the-fact. This has given birth to the rise of DevSecOps (like DevOps, but with security teams joining the fray too). The CA ecosystem provides the most secure continuous delivery pipeline available on the market today. It doesn’t just secure the delivery of applications, it secures the application’s code itself.

CA ARA offers action packs and downloads for a variety of security tools, such as CA Veracode and CA Privileged Access Management (CA PAM). CA Veracode runs analytics on every build that enters your CD pipeline, and CA PAM integration provides JIT privileges. This means CA ARA uses the least amount of privileges for the least amount of time against credentials that timeout after deployment execution.

Across all phases of the software lifecycle, automation streamlines the way in which we work.  CA ARA is a dedicated, scalable automation solution at the heart of the CA ecosystem, helping our users get the most out of our portfolio and enabling efficiency, consistency and greater productivity.
